DAY 1: The Ultimate Travel Day

WE MADE IT! Although we all were up well before sunrise, the kids’ energy carried on through the whole day and the adventure has officially begun! Huge thank you again for those parents who were able to drive a group down to LGA this morning — hope you were able to squeeze a nap in today at some point :)

After taking off on time from LGA and Miami, we landed in a foggy San Jose and were greeted by our two local guides, Erik and Ima, plus our two trusty bus drivers, Oscar and Eli! Everyone was in good spirits and we headed to our first destination…. LUNCH!

Students enjoyed a typical Costa Rican dish called casado, which consisted of chicken, rice, beans, plantains, fresh corn tortilla and pico de gallo, and sipped on some guanábana (translation: soursop) juice. After lunch, we headed back on the road for nearly 3 hours, meandering up and down some twisty, curvy roads and learning about some of Costa Rica’s rich history.

We arrived in La Fortuna, home of the Arenal Volcano and also our hotel for the next two nights, Hotel Arenal Manoa. After dinner at the hotel and a little birthday celebration for Natalie, we headed back to our rooms for some much needed sleep!

On the agenda tomorrow:

- Ziplining

- Sustainable Farm Tour & Lunch

- Hot Springs

Stay tuned!!

PS - Yes, your children’s phones have been successfully pried away from their hands and they are actually talking to each other!! :) Hopefully the “living in the moment” can continue bright and early tomorrow morning!

Buenas noches!
