DAY 2: Ziplines & Farms & Hot Springs… oh my!
We hit the ground running today with a jam packed schedule and the kids are still going strong here at the hot springs! However, some recent thunder and lightning cut our time in the pool short, but the kids made the best of it with some pina coladas and strawberry daiquiris (virgin of course!).
We learned about the history of the area on our way to the zip line and many kids conquered their fears of heights while taking in the view of the volcano from hundreds of feet in the air.
After ziplining (every kid did it!!), we headed to Don Juan’s organic farm where we had a delicious lunch prepared from ingredients exclusively from the farm. Once we had our bellies full, we took a tour of the farm and learned about how different foods are harvested and processed like cacao, sugarcane, yuca, and guava. Our farm guides, Natasha and Gustavo, also showed us some medicinal plants and flowers native to Costa Rica. It wouldn’t be a trip to Don Juan’s farm without a machete purchase. See below if your kid is coming home with one… time to find some yard work to put the machete to good use!
Everyone has been in good spirits as we close out day 2! Tomorrow we head to Sitio de Mata where we will be spending the next two nights at the homestay!
Pura vida!
The "Pura vida" lifestyle looks good on you, Cob!! We are saving all the weeds from our rainy CT weather for you and your machete. We love you and are so, so proud of you!
ReplyDeleteLooks like so much fun! I had a feeling there was a machete coming home with you, Audrey. Now that you're so skilled I can put you to work clearing brush. I hope you're having the time of your life. Engage with everything you can, take lots of pics, and take a moment every once in a while to simply appreciate where you are!
ReplyDeleteLooks awesome! Camden are you coming home with a machete? Thanks so much to the Roth family for this amazing experience for our kids!
ReplyDeleteWe already have 2 machetes at home from James and Maggie. Wondering if Shannon is adding to the collection? Can't wait to hear about the zip line experience for you Shan! xoxo
ReplyDeleteLooks like you are all having an amazing time. I can't believe you all zip lined across the jungle. I am so jealous. Glad to see you are bringing home a machete Ryan! Maybe you will find a few more souvenirs. I hope you shared lots of hugs and laughter with the kids at the orphanage and elementary school. Have a great time rafting to the POC! xoxo - mom, dad and sadie
